I work in the same industry as my father did. I have known a lot of colleagues since I was a young child. Now I work alongside them. I am a specialist in the industry. I get asked questions and people value my input.

But in my head I am still that child that was following dad to work.

Two options

1. Make a meeting with a lot of people to discuss the subject
2. Find out the smartest person under you and delegate to him the task of getting the answer

(2 is better)

Always answer: you're talking about problems. I don't want problems, I want solutions!

I was talking to someone who was a Team Leader in an aviation company and who 10 years later is now the Managing Director. I asked him how it felt being the top man, and he said, 'Tim ----- It just feels like all the adults have left the building.'

You have to be the confident person everyone now expects you to be. It can be tough.

and then you need to debug the hell of one legacy code,
because people expect you to have the answer.

MF debug it yourself.

When the guy above me was on vacation, I just found out the hard way, why he doesn't get much work done. Everybody goes to him with questions, and since he was on vacation, it was my turn. It freaking sucked.

I'm "foreign" so when they start irritating me, i go from my better-than-90%-of-native-speakers English to "Me so sorry, me no engly, me no anderstan" which conveniently fits into the bracket of "English humour" and at the same time tells them to stop winding me up...

I got promoted 2 months ago + an experienced employee supposed to be under me just left after 15 years… and almost instantly I started to get questions both for my role and the leaver’s…

”Who’s going to do this and this and that? This client has this situation, how Can we solve it? bl.a, bl.a.”

Really No understanding whatsoever that I’m New in my role. At least it’s challenging and lots of variety but jeez…

You mean every developer who gets hired to maintain and further develop a „legacy“ system that’s been in production since 25+ years and the dude who did it prior, died of Age or retired.
